What is the Energy Information Administration?
The United States Energy Information Administration is a Federal agency that operates within the United States Department of Energy. The Energy Information Administration is responsible for collecting, analyzing and disseminating impartial and independent energy information in order to promote sound policymaking, the construction of efficient markets and the development of public understanding concerning energy and its interaction with the environment and economy.
The Energy Information Administration is the country’s premier provider of energy information; by law, the date, analysis and forecasts released by the Energy Information Administration are independent of approval by any other employee or office of the United States Federal Government.
The Energy Information Administration was established by the passing of the Department of Energy Organization Act of 1977; this act placed the Energy Information Administration at the forefront regarding the delivery of energy statistics and analysis for the United States Federal Government.
The Energy Information Administration conducts an exhaustive data collection program that satisfies the full spectrum of energy sources, energy flows and end uses to generate, both short and long-term domestic and international energy projections. In addition to supplying the United States Federal Government with such projections, the Energy Information Administration performs critical energy analyses for the nation.
All of the information disseminated by the Energy Information Administration, including all of the data products, reports, analyses and services, provided to stakeholders and customers, can be found on the department’s website or retrieved by contacting the department’s call center. The Energy Information Administration offers several programs, which initiate data analyses for coal, petroleum, electric, renewable, natural gas and the nuclear energy sectors.
